The Unwritten Hour

The Unwritten Hour

Behind the throne there is an hour that never got written. Not an hour that was erased - an hour that nobody ever got around to filling in, left blank like an unfinished page. Blank things do not stay blank. It has been filling itself with drafts: approximations of people, rehearsals of events, guards who were nearly assigned a post. None of it is finished. None of it is quite wrong either.

Killing the Void King took the lid off, and the hour is now writing. It writes by taking whatever walks in as source material, which is what you are. Everything in here is a version of something: a first attempt, a discarded pass, a note in the margin arguing with the text. They fight like they are trying to become canon, because that is the only thing any of them wants and you are the nearest available source.

The final boss

Vaunt, the Hour That Wrote Itself is what the hour produced when it finally managed to write something all the way through: itself. It is the only finished thing in the dungeon and the newest thing in the world. Redactor Prime removes what does not belong; the Author's Regret is what is left of the attempts that failed. Vaunt has no regrets at all, having been completed on the first pass that counted.

Before you enter

The recommended level is 65. Treat it as a starting point: farm earlier tiers, upgrade gear, and adjust your pet when a boss stops you.

Difficulty inside a dungeon comes from one number that climbs with the tier, and the step between tiers is a large fraction of the gap between dungeons. So a wall at tier 7 here is not a signal to grind this dungeon harder - it usually means the opening tiers of the next dungeon are a better use of the hour, and you come back with the gear they dropped.
